Minnesota voting guide

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3. Here’s what you need to vote in Minnesota.

Even if you voted last time, check that you’re still registered. Check your registration

Register by:
  • Online, by mail, or in person: Tues., Oct. 13
  • At the polls or early voting: Tues., Nov. 3

Missed it? You can register and vote at your polling place on Election Day. Bring proof of where you live.

Key Dates

  • Last day to pre-register (online by 11:59 p.m.; paper by 5 p.m.)
  • 'Early Voting' into a ballot counter begins
  • Recommended last day to apply for a mail ballot
  • Last day to vote early in person
  • Election Day (7 a.m.–8 p.m.); same-day registration at the polls; mail ballots must be received (5 p.m. for hand delivery)

Your Voting Checklist

  • Vote early in person from Fri., Sept. 18 to Mon., Nov. 2.
  • Vote by mail. Any voter can vote by mail.
    Request a ballot by Tues., Oct. 20. Request a mail ballot
    Return it by Tues., Nov. 3.
    Problem with your ballot? If your ballot was turned down, call your county election office right away. You may still vote in person. Track your ballot
  • Vote on Election Day, Tues., Nov. 3, 7 a.m.–8 p.m. Find your polling place
  • Bring the right ID. Most voters don't need to show ID. See the official ID rules
  • Review your sample ballot before you go.
  • Have a past conviction?
    • You can't vote while you are in prison or jail for a felony.
    • You can vote on probation or parole. Register again after you get out, even on Election Day.

Ballot measures

  • Amendment 1: Permanent School Fund. A constitutional amendment from the legislature. It would let more money from the Permanent School Fund (which earns money from state school trust lands, including mining and logging) go to all school districts each year, starting July 1, 2027.
    Yes means schools get a bigger yearly payout from the Permanent School Fund, without raising income or property taxes.
    No means no change to how much the fund pays out to schools. A blank vote on this question counts as a NO.

  • Watch the count. Take a training to learn how to observe the polls.
