Ohio voting guide

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3. Here’s what you need to vote in Ohio.

Check Your Registration

Even if you voted last time, check that you’re still registered. Check your registration

Register by:
  • Online, by mail, or in person: Mon., Oct. 5

Key Dates

  • Last day to register or update your address (9 p.m. online and at county boards; mail must be postmarked)
  • Early in-person voting starts; mail ballots start going out
  • Last day for your county board to receive your mail ballot application (close of business)
  • Last day of early in-person voting (Sunday)
  • Election Day, 6:30 a.m.–7:30 p.m.; mail ballots must be received by 7:30 p.m.
  • Last day to show ID or fix a provisional or mail ballot problem at your county board (4 days after the election)

Your Voting Checklist

  • Vote early in person from Tues., Oct. 6 to Sun., Nov. 1.
  • Vote by mail. Any voter can vote by mail.

  • Bring the right ID. You must show an unexpired photo ID to vote in person.

  • Review your sample ballot before you go.
  • Have a past conviction?
    • You lose your vote only while you are in prison or jail for a felony.
    • Once you are out, even on parole or probation, you can vote.
    • You must register again.

Says he wants to 'strengthen the border' with more resources for border agents. Opposes ICE targeting families with no criminal record. Supported a path to citizenship for DACA recipients. Source

Says he is 'securing the border and adding more agents.' Voted for about $75 billion more for ICE in the 2025 tax and spending law, and has said ICE agents 'do a really good job.' Source

Sherrod Brown Democratic

Supports abortion access and backed Ohio's 2023 amendment protecting abortion rights. Supports the ACA; voted to cap Medicare drug costs and let Medicare negotiate prices, and sponsored a $35 monthly insulin cap. Source

Jon Husted Republican, incumbent

Opposes abortion and opposed Ohio's 2023 abortion-rights amendment; sponsored a bill to keep federal money from paying for abortions. Voted for the 2025 federal law that cut Medicaid spending and against extending ACA tax credits, calling the ACA 'dysfunctional.' Source

Wants to 'expand natural gas' and speed up energy permits. Has called the climate agenda 'a hoax.' Says data centers must meet all air and water standards and give nearby homes free electricity, or not be built. Source

Ballot measures

  • Issue 3: Require Voter Identification Amendment. Placed on the ballot by the legislature. Puts Ohio's photo ID rule for voting into the state constitution. In-person voters would have to show photo ID. Mail voters would have to give a photo ID, or a signature plus another ID number allowed by law. Lawmakers could set another way to verify people with a religious objection to being photographed. Photo ID is already required by state law.
    Yes means the photo ID requirement would be written into the Ohio Constitution, so it would be much harder to change later.
    No means photo ID would stay a state law that lawmakers can change, not part of the constitution.

Protect the Vote

  • Apply to be a poll worker and support free and fair elections.
  • Watch the count. Take a training to learn how to observe the polls.
